Beginning of a new semester

...almost.
It's been two eventful months since my last update. It began with me seeking any way I could to guarantee I would have bills paid year-round. I was hired in at Motel 6, a short slow walk from where I live. I wanted to hold both jobs until school started, in an attempt to make up for lost time and so they could hire a replacement and get him trained first. I'm glad I kept both jobs because the Motel job wasn't working out at all.
I prepared to quit working at JCPenny after a week with three late days in a row due to conflicting schedules. The Motel job has a set start time but a flexible end time, which I was never told about until I started there. I was getting out of one job at the same time I should have been punching in at the other. That made everyone go a bit nuts (lol) and luckily for me and everyone else involved, there was nobody else around that I wanted to give my resignation to. I say luckily because that gave me another few days of working at the Motel to realize it wasn't going to be tolerable enough to choose it over JCP.
This is the situation that let me know I definitely had to leave: We are give a few weeks to get our speed up to 20 minutes per room, by the second week I still saw no speed improvement. I'm a perfectionist regardless of intent, so quality is rarely a concern for me but speed is. Being bored all day only helps to slow things down further, if I'm working a job I can't automate well enough. Anyway, so on Saturday (this past week) at 11:00 my boss tells me I have to have five rooms done by 12:00. She didn't realize I hadn't finished a single room yet, I finished up the mornings tasks much too late. I normally take about 25-30 minutes to do an entire motel room. By 12:00 I had already finished FOUR rooms (minus towels and vacuuming)! That's an average 15-17 minutes per room! Guess how I did it?? For that entire hour I was thinking about quitting and how I would go about making it work for me. If the thought of quitting is the only thing that can get my speed up, I probably shouldn't be working there... so I quit on Sunday.
Now I'm back with JCP and fully intent on taking out enough loan money to pay for living expenses for a full year (half this semester, half the next). This way the JCP budget doesn't matter. I can make use of reduced hours to my benefit without getting worried about the possibility of an eviction, which would force me to take a break from my degree. I talked to my bosses on Monday and there was nothing but good news, from myself and them. I let them know I had quit the other job and they informed me that work hours wouldn't be a problem any more. The boss that had been giving me extra hours, is now fully authorized to continue to do so on her own budget (which is a sales budget, ie much better than a stock budget). She basically told me that January won't be a problem for me even if my schedule does drop really low. She can always give me hours helping the sales team in the stock room which, based on the past, I can assume that to range from 4-8 extra hours per week, which will correct the 12hr weeks that the stock budget might cause.
So, yeah, this has been a very good week proceeded buy a month of bad weeks. This Friday is payday for both jobs, one I'll wait for in the mail (60hrs), and the other one should be a 50hr work-week. This month coming up will be a three payday month as well!
Life balances itself out in the end... Here's to an awesome semester at Ferris!
